Where does Father's Day originate from?
A day for celebrating fatherhood
Father’s Day became more officially recognised in the early 20th Century and it said that this celebratory day was introduced to compliment Mothers Day. The first recorded Fathers Day is said to have been held on the 5th July 1908 in a church located in West Virginia, USA. In 52 countries around the world Fathers Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June, but is celebrated on other dates in some countries. The idea behind Fathers Day is not unlike Mother’s Day in that it is a day for celebrating fatherhood and male parenting as well as commemorating fathers and forefathers. It did take a number of years for Fathers Day to be taken seriously and to make the holiday official even though this special day had the support of the YWCA, YMCA and various churches.
Commemorating fathers and forefathers.
